Burnett Creek Elementary School will hold a Bobcat Block Party from 1-4 pm, Saturday, April 6 to celebrate the school’s 25th anniversary.

Burnett Creek opened in 1999 to 338 students. After a building addition in 2015, enrollment has grown to around 800 students. 

“Much like today, TSC was dealing with new housing developments and student enrollment growth 25 years ago,” says TSC Superintendent Dr. Scott Hanback. “TSC realigned boundary areas to bring together students from the Klondike and Battle Ground areas to form a new school community—a school community that continues to pride itself on academic excellence for all students.”

As part of the milestone celebration, the school will dig up a time capsule that was buried in 1999. Founding Principal Mark Pearl says a committee of staff, parents and student council members created the time capsule and filled it with a variety of items pertinent to the time and school’s development.  

Pearl says while some things have changed through the years, Burnett Creek’s reputation for excellence remains: “We had the privilege of creating a new and different whole-child based approach to discipline as well as a totally themed approach to instruction. The core staff chose to be a part of this and were so very excited, innovative, and motivated throughout the process. Community members and parent leaders were involved the entire way.” 

The event will include the opening of the time capsule, cake walk, carnival games and other activities. 

“We are excited to celebrate 25 years of Burnett Creek,” says Principal Matt Ridenour. “This school has created many positive memories for so many in our community. We have a strong foundation that will carry us into the next 25 years.”
